Nau mai, haere mai ki te kura o Makuri (Welcome to Makuri School)
Makuri School is situated between the Makuri Awa (river) and Nga maunga o Puketoi (Puketoi Range). This is a rural area between Pahiatua township and the Pongaroa community to the east. Here at Makuri the classroom meets native NZ bush and rural surroundings. The school is a full primary (years 0-8), and has 2 classrooms. A junior class and middle/senior class operate 3 days a week and one whole class for 2 days a week. The very supportive community makes this happen with annual fundraising to support the school with the staffing required. The school uses structured literacy to provide great reading foundations for our junior Akonga (learners). We have a motivated and enthusiastic staff who provide wonderful support for our Akonga. The school has worked a lot on its local curriculum recently including educational trips into our local Bush, and connecting with local environmental support services. We have active, industrious children and endeavour to provide a well balanced, varied and fun learning environment.
Join us on our journey and read more about our beautiful school.

Hi All,
The plan for tomorrow is to meet at school at 8:45am as usual. We have some gear to transport down to the Domain.
I'll have this ready for parents to load up to take down. We need to transport the kids down as well obviously.
If someone has a grill plate or something to cook bulk sausages on a fire it would be great.
Basic Ideas for day.
Set up gazebos and base camp for the day.
Explore potential swimming holes.
Set up a slip and slide
Have a game in the morning of cricket/ frisbee/ football or some less high energy activities
Go for the swim etc. once the day has warmed up.
Have lunch and cook up sausages and bread etc. Smores for lunch dessert.
More Activities and finish with a lolly Scramble
Kids need to bring:
Togs and towel, sunblock, footwear, a hat and a water bottle.
Attached are the following Makuri School Procedures and Policies for parents to have a look at:

Concerns and Complaints Policy
Kia Ora Everyone,
We receive reports from the MOE on how our attendance is tracking as this is a focus for the Ministry. Attached to this document are the summary sheets of this report. These are called Everyday Matters reports and provide good data to inform schools of attendance and patterns. Many schools are sharing this with their parent community in Newsletters and such. I wanted to share it with you as it shows some valuable information. However I wanted to share it with you on this platform to start with for privacy reasons.
The attached documents are focused on term 1 2025. You can see that we have dramatically dropped in regular attendance in term 1 compared to previous terms. There are the usual suspects such as COVID and another long “cold like” illness that hung around. However the report shows more data and patterns as well. Please look at the report. It gives some good insight into our attendance. Further to this, each child will have a year to date attendance percentage on their mid year report. This will be out at the end of this term. If you have any concerns or questions and need to check in, please contact me at school.
Ngā Mihi nui,
Murray Grimmer
